Islamic Heritage Month
As we continue celebrating Islamic Heritage Month, here’s an exciting fun fact for you! Did you know that the word "algorithm"—which powers everything from your phone apps to the entire internet—comes from the name of a 9th-century Muslim mathematician? His name was Al-Khwarizmi, also known as the father of algebra. He wrote a groundbreaking book that laid the foundation for the algebraic methods we use today, including systematic ways to solve linear and quadratic equations. In fact, the term "algebra" comes from the word "al-jabr," which appears in the title of his famous book.
But Al-Khwarizmi's brilliance didn’t stop there! In addition to algebra, he made significant contributions to astronomy and geography and introduced the decimal positional number system to the Islamic world, which was later shared with Europe. His name is the root of the word "algorithm," reflecting his lasting influence on modern computation and technology. His work continues to shape fields like computer science, cryptography, and engineering.

SLC Updates-The First 25
We’re continuing our series “Creed” in The First 25. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the Christian faith and how we’re called to live. We meet at 8:15am in the chapel located in the cafeteria so bring some friends and come check it out!

Creative writers
Creative Writers meet today at lunch in Room 229. Anyone entering writing in the two current contests or submitting a piece to the fall edition of The Flyer is invited to bring a draft for feedback.
HOSA
A brief HOSA meeting will be held on Wednesday Oct 23. We will look at the options we have in order to participate in HOSA. All interested, please come to Rm 133- Mrs. Rekhi's room at lunch!
Volunteers needed
We are looking for a few more volunteers to assist with our volleyball tournament on Friday October 21. You would need to be available from 4pm - 7pm to help scorekeep or be a linesperson. Please email Ms.Pavlovich if available.
Study skills
Do you need to improve your study skills? Do you want to be better prepared for tests and feel more confident about the concepts you are learning in class. Come to Rm 112 on Wed Oct 23rd to get tips and tricks about effective study skills. This session will be run by one of Gr 12 students who will share their keys to success on earning high marks in their classes. Mid-terms are just around the corner, so wouldn’t it be great to improve your results. Join us at lunch on Wed in Rm 112.
Interact Fundraising Committee
Eden has a very active Interact Fundraising Committee. We meet every Thursday morning in Rm 123 ( Mrs. Power's math classroom). Our mission is to support local and global issues through awareness and fundraising. If you are interested in getting involved and making your community a better place, come check us out. New members are always welcome! This week we will be planning our first bake sale of the year! See you Thursday morning at 8am!
Eden Dance:
Eden Dance meets again TOMORROW, in Gym C, from 7-8 a.m. All new members are welcome to join! Bring your dancing shoes and get ready to move with us!
Senior and Junior Boys Basketball
If you are interested in playing boys basketball this year, there will be a sign up sheet hanging on the wall outside of room 231 on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
Please make sure you are putting your name on the correct list as both sign-ups for junior and senior are beside each other. Also, be sure to list any sports you are currently playing at Eden.
Ski Club
There will be a Ski Club information meeting on Tuesday at lunch in Gym AB. Please check the school website under CLUBS for the Ski Club website, where all registration details are posted. Registration is this Thursday, October 24th at 7am.
